What is a statistical test that you can use to determine the relationship between the two groups which are non-numeric (I.e., one of the fastest for non-numerical data in search of equivalent)

Specifically, I want to compare the growth statistics of the plant. I want to compare the type of plant (non-numerical) with CO2 uptake (numerical) and want to determine whether there is a statistical union.
